Top 5 wedding dress trends for 2010
Pleats, by M KasaharaWe've been keeping our eyes peeled and have noticed a few trends appearing for 2010 weddings. Take a look and add any you've seen!
1) It's all about the era
Brides are taking inspiration from the 20s, 50s and more! Stealing the show for the stylish 20s are dropped-waist flapper-style dresses, crystal, beads and art deco-inspired geometric draping. The flirty 50s provide brides with plenty to choose from such as sweetheart necklines and tea-length gowns.
2) Colourful details
You could have your shoes dyed to match your colour theme or maybe add a coloured belt or sash to your dress. Go one step further and have your bodice made in your favourite shade or keep it simple with some appliqué detail. Don't forget your accessories are a lovely place to start when thinking about colour.
3) Asymmetry
Show off your décolletage while keeping the overall look classy by just wearing one strap. This season the straps are quite embellished with bows, flowers and ruffles but you can make yours as demure as you like. The asymmetrical trend doesn't just apply to the neckline though, you can incorporate details like a bow on just one side of your dress.
4) Pretty pleats
Lovely pleats add texture and softness to your gown. You can add them into your skirt using a different material for extra oomph. The pleats can add dazzle by bouncing the light off the material or you might want to keep them small and sweet. Either way they certainly add a feeling of fun to your look!
5) Mis-matched bridesmaid dresses
Identikit helpers are out and co-ordinating outfits are in. Think different shades, different necklines but with the overall look in harmony. Your flowers could give you some inspiration here as you'll often have a few different flowers, colours and shades in the bouquets. Play to your bridesmaids' strengths - flatter them and even let them choose their own dress (with your approval!). They'll look gorgeous (and thank you for it) and your wedding photos will look amazing.
